Watershed 101 - James City County Subwatersheds
Powhatan Creek - 22 square miles: The creek discharges into the lower James River near Jamestown Island. Powhatan Creek is notable for its biodiversity and bottomland wetlands and was recently ranked as having the greatest significance for biodiversity and natural areas in Virginia (Source: Virginia Division of Natural Heritage). Some of the residential subdivisions contained within this watershed are Ford's Colony, Longhill Station, Windsor Forest, Villages of Westminster, Powhatan Secondary, Landfall. The watershed also contains Eastern State Hospital, the Williamsburg-James City County Community Center, Mid-County Park, Plumeri Park (William and Mary baseball complex), Powhatan Plantation, Greensprings Plantation and Williamsburg Plantation.
