This BMP Guide is a public service presentation of James City County's Environmental Division. We hope you will use the site to SEARCH THE BMP RATINGS and research the quality of BMPs (Best Management Practices) in your neighborhood. Also included is advice on ways homeowners associations and BMP owners can IMPROVE AND MAINTAIN the watershed facilities under their care.
BMP Facilities are important elements in the protection of our watersheds, vital natural filters that help protect our waterways, rivers and streams. If you find that your neighborhood watershed isn't up to your standards, please contact your homeowners association. And, please take a moment to browse our NEWS AND PROJECTS page for updates on what some of your neighbors are doing to help protect our watersheds with PRIDE.
The goal of the PRIDE watershed education program is to improve water quality in James City County by teaching residents about the importance of watershed protection while providing residents and neighborhoods with specific watershed restoration and protection tools.
The use of stormwater management/BMP practices which delay, capture, store, treat, filter or infiltrate stormwater runoff is a commonly used tool for watershed protection. Therefore, neighborhoods can EARN A PRIDE WATERSHED DESIGNATION by enhancing or improving their BMP facility beyond it’s current design level of service or by exceeding County standards for BMP maintenance beyond normal maintenance obligations.
